What is Data Wrangling?

Data wrangling is the process of accessing, transforming and mapping raw data from one or many sources together for use in downstream applications like analytics or transactional systems.

Modern Data Wrangling Requirements

There are typically four steps using Put It Forward that make up the data wrangling process.

1. Data Discovery and Mapping

Accessing the data sources and linking the fields needed into a data staging area.

2. Data Cleansing and Normalization

Here you remove the errors and outliers in your data that aren't needed then structure it for downstream use.

3. Data Enrichment and Validation

Combine data with other attributes or apply calculations to derive other insights which might be used in the target system.

4. Publishing and Syndication

Data is mapped into downstream environments and systems for consumption.  Syndication happens when the sets of data need to be published to multiple targets.
